time can’t be expanded or bought


Time and again I have been asked by my juniors to talk on importance of time management.

Well I have always believed time and tide waits for none. the more you respect it the more you reach towards pinnacle of your goal.

I wonder how many people sit in a corner and daydream about having an epic adventure, having a successful career or may be achieving their zillion dreams. but do you hear them say “I do not have time” or “I’m lazy enough to do this”

Of course you are unstoppable. we all have 24 hrs in a day. what does it take for a leader to break the barriers and live his dream? and let’s think beyond these excuses.

If you ask me its his unending passion for what he loves to do

Yes, a little dreaming isn’t bad for it motivates you for next great thing you do. but it’s not just you dream and plan. it has to be turned into action.

  • Imagine a mountaineer on Everest running out of time and oxygen while summit. he wouldn’t live longer to share his success to the world
  • Imagine the time a student wasted on Sundays sleeping for long hours. cannot buy back the time he/she wasted during his/her most important exams
  • Imagine the time you wasted without planning your goals, finances, travel etc.
  • Imagine the time you wasted without spending time with family
  • Imagine the time wasted on Facebook which could have been utilized to do productive work.
  • Imagine the time you wasted at work place gossiping around with coworkers, coffee breaks and lunches, personal telephone calls which otherwise could have utilized to serve your customer in a spectacular way

A time is never wasted until you waste it all the time but if you can do 7/10 productive work im sure you grow at a faster pace.

Give time to

  • polish your skills.
  • polish your relationship with your partner
  • do brainstorming on areas you are weak at and plans to improve
  • rework on your creative ideas
  • to love to care
  • to learn, express, to think, to exercise.

Ok now how is that your peer accomplishes more than you, having used the same amount of time you have been given? maybe has zeal to achieve, focused, passionate , think about solutions

I already said you are unstoppable. what is holding you back from forging ahead and doing things that you were supposed to?

Lack of interest, enthusiasm, decision making? Prioritizing? Search for an answer within

I’m sure the more you are in control, the happier you are and lesser the stress level is

It all comes by managing your time efficiently

We all sleep for 8 hrs., eat for 2 hrs. that’s 10 hrs. gone already but what you do in remaining 14 hrs. makes the difference.

Oh yeah do you procrastinate.? read this article again. you may find the reason

Increased Productivity? Keep these in mind

I was reading an article which mentions the factors for increased productivity.

Below is my take on it

Stop working overtime and increase your productivity

We all know, in the IT industry many of us work beyond our time limits just to meet deadlines and make customers happy.

But increased overtime duty may deplete your energy level is what I feel

Productivity is not about increase in the work time, but managing our energy to achieve excellence is what I believe. That’s the reason MNC gives weekend as holiday .to refuel your energy , thoughts and come back to work with greater enthusiasm

Learn to say No

We don’t have to accept every task at our bin. Result would be disastrous because when fail to complete everything, on time and effectively. We are not just over burdening ourselves with pile of work but reducing our competency level too due to exhausted mind by taking almost everything.

DO NOT hesitate to say NO when there no way you can manage an extra task when already there is stack of tasks. I have written whole article called “No is a complicated word” go read that

Stop doing everything yourself

Yeah work in a corporate office where we believe in collaboration. Why not take advantage of that

When I had joined my first project I wanted to finish all my task on my own and never seeked help

Initially it was good but then gradually when things became complex, people expected that I wouldn’t ask for help and I can do it all independently. I realized how my brain exhausted thinking about solutions all alone. My mentor then advised me find the mentor within the team who could help me complete things. Nothing wrong in collaborating. We often need to talk to different people within and outside the team to achieve the common objective

Stop being a perfectionist

So now here is the point for our managers. They believe they are perfectionists and they expect us to be the same. Yesterday I saw a video which co-blogger Isabella (Pearls) posted which gave an incredible message of being perfectly imperfect.

Rather we should concentrate more of awareness and adjustments than focusing too much on the things just for the sake of being perfect and miss the bigger picture.

Stop doing repetitive tasks and start automating it.

. be it a personal finance Management , be it a regular task at office , if we have a tool , a website , a software which could automate the process of doing regular task how much of unnecessary efforts are we reducing . Think about it. I use lot of Web Applications and other tools for this sake

Stop guessing and start backing up your decisions with data

Now this is critical, I always rely on facts and figures when deciding on something.

Mostly in my financial planning. I do survey, ask opinion, collect the data, compare, and then decide

So most of them turn out to be good decision.

Kaizen whiteboards

Couple of days back there was an announcement in our office that each team will be given a very big White Boards. This is called Kai-zen Whiteboards.

Well before I Proceed I would like give a brief idea on Kai-zen. Its means Change for Good.

It is the practice of continuous improvement. Kaizen was originally introduced to the West by Masaaki Imai in his book Kai-zen: The Key to Japan’s Competitive Success in 1986.

Now all we got to do is come up with our own format which gives a quantitative outlook of our performance each day.

We provide technical solutions to our customers and what we could think of is how many:

  • Issues are resolved??
  • Under progress
  • Pending for Customer Updates

So now this will clearly give you facts and figures on the service we provide.

But idea behind this is to increase productivity. Now I don’t know how much this is going to help us increase productivity

There are multiple teams around us and I believe this is not to showcase it to many but to analyze own performance.

So I came up with 2 other sections which like

  • Setbacks
  • Improvements and other priorities


People came for an audit and found many have a similar template and I came up with my priority matrix

Somehow it can be an advantage or time consuming things. So what do you guys think ??
